Copy Editing

Specialty Painting Inc. - Employee Handbook Revisions

As a part of my college course, I asked my employer if there were any documents that I could edit, or update, and this was the project that was given to me. On the left, the original. It’s filled with dated information, policies, practices, and this on top of having some spelling and grammar issues. It had been unused for quite some time. On the right, is my revised copy. I went through and changed wording and phrasing to be more simplistic where needed, as many employees have only a high school education, with some having a difficult time with English in general, and the original had some technical jargon they would not understand. I, of course, made sure to rid it of spelling and grammar errors. Removed old policies that no longer applied, and added new policies that have come into effect since the last time the old manual was updated. My revision also includes light color scheming, and I’ve moved and grouped topics according to their similarity. It was a lot of work, and in the end I was able to condense it down from 38 pages to 29 pages. The owner and I are really happy with how it turned out.
